State Committee to hold census in Turkmenistan

The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan has launched active preparations for the complete census of population and housing census of 2012, in accordance with the Decree of the President.

One of the requirements of international standards and the most important step in preparations for the census is to hold the listing of buildings and households, which is currently being conducted on all settlements of Turkmenistan, the Committee noted.

More than 7,000 employees of ministries, departments and local authorities will participate in this event as a registrar and cartographers.

Results of the listing will provide the territorial division of towns and villages on the census departments, instructors and enumeration areas, will allow carrying out the calculation of the need for temporary census workers, and providing complete coverage of the census of all settlements and their inhabitants.

New forms and software for the listing recognition using optical-reading device developed to automate the processing of the listing results. Their application will significantly reduce the number of operators and the processing of the results listing.

The State Committee also reports that the pilot census in all provinces and in Ashgabat (total of 2,500 households) is implemented in parallel with the listing.

The work on the division of administrative units for counting and instructional areas, census divisions, began in the local statistics authorities. Forty two counting, six instructor stations and six census divisions will be set up to hold pilot census in Turkmenistan.
