Turkmenistan's Kaakhkinsky district expands areas for vegetable, fruit crops

Areas for vegetable and fruit crops have been expanded in the Kaakhkinsky district of Turkmenistan’s Akhal region, in accordance with the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports with reference to Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

All measures are being taken to strengthen food abundance and provide the country's population with fruits and vegetables, in particular, potatoes in the above-mentioned area.

For potatoes 350 hectares of land have been allocated in the mentioned district. Preference was given to high-yielding Gala and Sonata varieties in Kaakhkinsky district. These varieties have well established in the local soil and climate conditions.

Potato growing is considered to be a vital part of Turkmenistan's agricultural sector. The country's president has recently highlighted the need to increase production of fruit and vegetables.

Earlier, President of Turkemenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave instructions to increase production of potato, vegetable and melon crops in the country's Akhal region.

Generally, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable and fruits are the main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan.

Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards and greenhouses.
