Uzbekistan's IT-market expanding

In 2017, services for 7.7 trillion soums were provided in the field of information technology in Uzbekistan, which is 26 percent more than in 2016. Within the framework of the investment program, $260 million have been spent.

These figures were announced at a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at which the current state and prospects of the development of the information and communication technologies sector in Uzbekistan were discussed.

Over the past year, digital TV coverage of the republic's population has been increased from 88 percent to 100. The number of active mobile phone numbers has increased by 7 percent and reached 22.8 million units.

But as the head of state noted, much remains to be done in the field of information technology, the achieved results do not match the performance of other countries. The country ranks 95th in the index of IT development among the 176 countries.

The president gave instructions to develop in the current year the Strategy for the Further Development of the Electronic Government System for 2018-2021, taking into account the international experience and trends in the development of ICT, and also to increase at least twice the volume of works and services produced by the Mirzo-Ulugbek Innovation Center residents.

The head of state also instructed to increase the export of software products and IT services of the innovation center by 1.8 times, assist its residents in establishing cooperation with foreign companies and entering new markets.

Much attention was also paid to the Concept of the "Safe City" project, which provides for the installation of more than 16,000 video cameras, the organization of the Data Processing Center in Tashkent. It is also planned to implement the systems "Safe Tourism", "Safe Territory", "112", video surveillance of the entrance examinations to universities and fixing violations of traffic rules.
