UK invites Uzbekistan to take part in 26th UN Climate Summit

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson invited President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to take part in the 26th UN Climate Summit (COP-26), Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

On June 1, 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Timothy Torlot and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Helena Fraser.

Torlot and Fraser conveyed a personal message from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, addressed to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, inviting him to take part in the 26th UN Climate Summit (CPC-26).

During the conversation, it was noted that Uzbekistan attaches paramount importance to environmental protection, climate change and the preservation of ecological diversity, including mitigating the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea.

It was emphasized that the unanimously adopted resolution of the UN General Assembly "On declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies" is a clear evidence of the readiness of the world community to support the efforts of Uzbekistan in this direction.
