Army General Necdet Ozel has been today appointed as the Turkish general staff chief after a meeting of the Supreme Military Council, Turkish CNN Turk reported.
Turkish General Staff Chief Gen. Isik Kosaner resigned on July 29, the CNN Turk TV channel reported.
According to the report, Kosaner made such a decision following his meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
As the TV channel reported with reference to diplomatic sources, Kosaner resigned after Prime Minister Erdogan asked him to retire.
Along with Kosaner other three Land, Naval, Air Armed Forces generals, Erdal Jeylanoglu, Hasan Aksay and Ugur Yigit asked for retirements as well.
