Lithuania intends to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan during its OSCE chairmanship.

Lithuania's top officials are scheduled to visit Azerbaijan in the first half of next year for this purpose, the country's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Kestutis Kudzmanas, told Trend.

"President Dalia Grybauskaite, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and Parliamentary Speaker Irena Dyagutene wil make an official visit to Azerbaijan," the ambassador said.

The speaker's visit is scheduled for Feb. 9-10.

Also, in the coming months, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis will visit Baku as OSCE acting chairman. Lithuania will chair the OSCE from January.

During the visit, a wide range of cooperation issues will be discussed.

Lithuania became a U.N. member on Sept. 17, 1991. In 2001, it joined the World Trade Organization. On March 29, 2004, the country became a NATO member. A treaty was signed on Lithuania's accession into the EU in 2003, which was approved by the Lithuanian citizens via referendum. The country became an EU member on May 1, 2004.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, trade turnover in January-October totaled $16.3 million.
