Turkey, Istanbul, Dec. 6 / Trend special corr. A. Badalova /

The northern part of the Caspian Sea has been actually divided between the coastal countries. There are no problems with the sea bottom, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told Trend today.

"So far we have worked in this direction," he said. "Very important agreements and mutual understanding have been reached in this issue."

Khalafov said that Azerbaijan continues negotiating with Turkmenistan and Iran.

"I think that the current international legal framework, international experience and good will of all involved countries will allow to move forward and reach a common agreement on the Caspian Sea delimitation," he said.

He said that the negotiations on the status are underway at the level of deputy ministers. A working group is constantly operating.

"We are working on the provisions of the draft convention, which have not been agreed yet," he said. "I hope that the general will of all the Caspian littoral countries and consistent work on the draft document will allow to reach an agreement to agree on the status of the Caspian Sea."

It should be stressed that the Caspian Forum has started in Istanbul today.
