Tests have shown that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime "and its accomplices" used chemical weapons, the French government said Tuesday, adding it was considering "all options" in terms of a response, dpa reported.
Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius earlier announced that French tests had confirmed the use of sarin gas in Syria.
In one of the incidents from which France received samples "there is no doubt that it is the regime and its accomplices" who carried out the attack, he later told France 2 television.
"All options are on the table," said Fabius, for whom "a line has been crossed."
The options ranged from not reacting at all to a response "that includes the use of arms against the place where the gas is produced, where it is held, where it is stored."
Asked if that meant bombing storage facilities, he said: "We're not there yet." He also ruled out an immediate decision to arm the rebels.
"We must both react and at the same time not block the possible peace conference," he said.
