One of the options of the new concept of aviation development in Armenia is the transformation of Yerevan's Zvartnots airport into a transit one, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said, News-Armenia reported.
"One of the options is offering transit services and giving priority to those airlines that will use Yerevan as a transit city," the Prime Minister said speaking at the National Assembly on Monday.
Speaking about the situation in the field of air traffic after the start of the bankruptcy proceedings by national airline Armavia, the Prime Minister noted that there are diametrically opposite views in this area from full usage to the establishment of a national carrier with state owned controlled stock.
"At the moment we have received a technical assistance proposal from international bodies. The first stage of talks with experts has been held. You know that there is also public debate around the issue and a variety of approaches are being formed," he added.
CJSC Armenia - International Airports operates Zvartnots airport in accordance with a 30-year concession management provided by the Armenian government in 2001. The official opening of the new airport terminal meeting all the international requirements took place in 2011.
The owner of the Armenia International Airports company is a New York based holding company fully owned by a citizen of Argentine of Armenian descent, Eduardo Eurnekian.
