The Armenian Union of Political Scientists intends to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in connection with political repression, news.am website said on March 17 with reference to the Union's press-service.
"The political persecution has been carried out for more than two years under the guise of the criminal prosecution," according to the statement. "This started with the participation of the chairman of the Union in the 2012 parliamentary elections. This caused the chairman of the Armenian Union of Political Scientists Hmayak Hovannisian's to abandon his parliamentary mandate."
The Union stressed that this case once again reveals the desire of the authorities at any cost to control public political activity in Armenia.
