There were no Azerbaijani peacekeepers on board the Turkish military helicopter which crashed in Afghanistan, a source in the Ministry of Defence of Afghanistan told Trend on Friday.

There are 90 Azerbaijani peacekeepers currently serving as part of the Turkish contingent in Afghanistan.

There was no information about any Azerbaijani peacekeepers on board the crashed helicopter, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Afghanistan, with headquarters in Pakistan, told Trend.

A military helicopter crashed in Afghanistan on Friday, resulting in the deaths of 12 Turkish peacekeepers and four civilians on the ground. The helicopter belongs to the NATO coalition in Afghanistan, ISAF.

According to information released by the Afghan media, the helicopter belonged to the Turkish peacekeeping forces and the cause of the crash was as a result of a collision of the helicopter with a residential building. There is no information if there were civilians on the board.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also confirmed the Turkish helicopter crash in Afghanistan, adding that there is no accurate information on the number of deaths there.
