The search operation for Yashar Ahmadov, the third member of the crew of a Mi-17 military helicopter that crashed on Monday near Baku, continues, Trend correspondent reported from the scene. Boats and rescuers of MOE and ambulance crews are involved to it.
As reported by Trend earlier, bodies of two crew members, Lieutenant Bahruz Zeynalov and Senior Lieutenant Rustam Rustamov were found on Monday.
The Defense Ministry expressed condolences to the families of the helicopter crash victims.
A helicopter belonging to Azerbaijani Air Force disappeared from radar on Monday at 10.30 and crashed near the beach in Shikhov, the Defense Ministry said.
According to preliminary data, the crash was due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. The helicopter fell into the sea at a distance of 250 meters from the shore.
The modernization of the Mi-8 helicopter, which ended in 1980, led to the creation of an improved version, the Mi-8MT (designation Mi-17 is for export). The Mi-17 was fitted with 2 TV3-117 engines. The number of crew members on board of these helicopters is three people, while there is passenger seating for 24.
