Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / Three dead-bodies were pulled from the ruins of a 16-storey building last night. Tural Museyibov, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations, informed Trend that the total number of victims has reached seven.
The injured, Ramil Nazarov, Adedkhan Akhundov and Rauf Aliyev, are in intensive care, whereas Abbas Ahmadov is in the casualty wing.
Rescue work is ongoing. The Prosecutor's Office of Baku brought a case in accordance with Articles 222.2 (violation of the safety regulations during construction, mining and other work, which results in death and injury) and 222.1 (violation of safety regulations during construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
The Prosecutor General's Office informed Trend that the head of the company Mitefekkir Ali Muradov, which carried out the construction, and other senior officials of the company have been arrested.
Initial accounts show that gross violation of the construction rules caused the collapse of the building at the crossroads of Nakhchivani and Mukhtarov Streets, according to Kamil Bagirov, head of the Civil Defense Department of the Civil Defense Troops of the Emergency Ministry.
Earlier, the Emergency Ministry warned Mutefekkir against violation of construction rules. An investigation has been launched to the remove those mistakes, Bagirov said.
