Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb.5 / Trend corr N. Kirtzkhalia / Facts on physical violence and threats against journalists exist in Georgian regions, head of the Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia (AYJG) Tamar Khidasheli and chairman of the Regional Media Association Iya Mamaladze said to joint news conference on Feb.5.
Mamaladze said that pressures on journalists can be observed in the regions of the country. Threat of physical violation by chairman of Chokhatauri district to journalists of newspaper "Guriya News" serves as a sample to this fact. According to Malamadze, chairman of the district Anton Khundadze threatened the journalists with physical violence. The journalists were interested in the activity of the district's management and law violations.
Mamaladze also presented an audio record in which Khundadze openly says that will "square accounts with those who offended him". Journalists also encounter problems in state enterprises such as a refusal to give information. For instance, Khundadze told a journalist of the abovementioned newspaper that he will give him information whenever he wants.
The AYJG called the leadership of the country to act adequately to the facts of pressure on representatives of the media outlets and response to all such cases.
