The resolution on the human rights in Azerbaijan adopted in the European Parliament is slanderous and not serious, Head of the Department on Work with Law-Enforcement Agencies of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Fuad Alasgarov said in an interview with Azerbaijani media today.
"Most of the issues reflected in this document have been distorted," he said. "The release date of the resolution gives ground to say that this is an ordered document. The intensive anti-Azerbaijani campaign going on in the European media, the behaviour of the Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International organizations and our neighbours and the synchronous activity of the radical opposition and some NGOs in Azerbaijan in this direction confirm this once again. The reference to the "launch of a 10-month campaign by Azerbaijani human rights activists on the eve of Eurovision" in this very resolution proves it, as well."
"On the other hand, this resolution has been adopted within urgent procedures of the European Parliament," he added. "
This document which was adopted hastily after around 30-minute hearings includes many false and unchecked provisions."
" I think that the European Parliament is standing on a wrong position," he said. "In fact, Azerbaijan being on the southern border of Europe acts as an alternative energy supplier of Europe and as an important part of Europe's economic independence and security. Azerbaijan is a country which has chosen the path of integration to Europe and always sticks to its commitments. Showing biased attitude to such country for narrow political interests at least causes regret. For example, the position of Bernd Posselt, the German member of the European People's Party, is not different at all from the position of German media."
The European Parliament adopted a resolution on the human rights in Azerbaijan on May 24. The resolution also condemns radical Islamists' threats against participants and spectators of Eurovision 2012 song contest.
"The resolution adopted by the European Parliament, is completely biased," he stressed. " I think that those who voted in favour of the resolution do not have strategic thinking and have narrow political vision. This will affect the reputation of the European Parliament as well. Being the "watchdog" of democratic values, the European Parliament as a structure should think about its reputation, examine issues not on the basis of on anti-Azerbaijani statements and biased reports of quasi human rights defenders who have aggressive attitude toward the government and do it for their personal interests but on the basis of objective sources and, most importantly, not to distort the reality for the sake of some orders or interests"
"It should be stressed that no one and no international organization can influence the policy conducted by the Azerbaijani President for the sake of the people," he added.
