Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 9 / Trend T. Hajiyev /
The Azerbaijani Press Council opposes transferring media power to the ombudsman, the organization told Trend today.
In this regard, the council has sent an appeal to President Ilham Aliyev.
Azerbaijan has a perfect legal framework in the media, the appeal says. The law on data mining is on the focus of attention of both local and international experts: "For solution of duties coming from the law is considered to establish another organization - Ombudsman on information issues. This issue was discussed on July 22, in the meeting with Council members during opening of new administrative building of the Council of Press," the appeal says.
The separate functioning of Commissioner on information issues makes possible to achieve more effective results, the appeal says.
"We ask you to support establishment of independent information ombudsman and prevent its union with Commissioner for Human Rights," the appeals says.
