2-day int'l conference on perspectives of juvenile jurisdiction due in Azerbaijan

An international conference, dedicated to perspectives of juvenile jurisdiction, will be held in Azerbaijan from 14 to 15 April, Trend reports referring to Nadir Seyidov, the chair of the Alliance of Non-governmental Organizations on Defense of Childish Rights.

According to Seyidov, the conference, organized under support of UN, UNICEF and OSCE, will discuss the current state of the juvenile jurisdiction in Azerbaijan and its development. The conference will also determine exact directions of development of juvenile jurisdiction

High-rank officials of Azerbaijan, heads of appropriate force bodies and state committees are expected to participate in the conference. Jakob Duk, the UN chair on Childish Rights, Gelmkin Byerbi, the international expert and juvenile judge of Germany, Nogar Khananashvili, the head of the department of the Human Rights Commission under the Russian President, are invited to the event, Seyidov stressed.

According to Seyidov, 4 working groups will be established at the conference. The first one will be involved in prevention of criminality among Azerbaijani teenagers, as well as determination of role of social employees in this sphere, while the second will work with specialized bodies of juvenile jurisdiction, the third - activities and development of state commission on defense of teenagers rights, the fourth - determination of application of alternative punisments in criminal cases of teenagers.
