ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 22. The governments of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are ready to kick the bucket on permits for road transportation across their borders, aiming to grease the wheels of trade and economic cooperation between the two nations, Trend reports, referring to the amendments published by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport.

The new regulations, currently up for grabs until September 5, 2024, will give the green light for the transportation of goods between the countries or through their territories without batting an eye. Once finalized, the protocol will take 30 days to come into force.

The move reflects a shared commitment to facilitating cross-border trade. This decision comes as part of broader efforts to improve trade ties, with Kazakhstan's First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar meeting Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, Batyr Atdaev and Baymyrat Annamammedov, on August 9 to discuss cooperation in various sectors, including energy.

At the 6th Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedowv underscored the importance of close economic collaboration as a key element in the region's successful development. The ongoing efforts to remove barriers and enhance trade are seen as pivotal in further strengthening the economic partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

Over the past five years, trade between the two nations has quadrupled, and in the first six months of this year alone, bilateral trade reached $237.2 million.
