A report on the seasonal work on the country's agricultural lands was delivered at the recent meeting of the Turkmen government, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency reported.

Among the main tasks in the agrarian sector, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed an increase in the yield of wheat and cotton, the improvement of the melioration of arable lands, provision with water for irrigation.

Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Esenmyrat Orazgeldiev delivered the report. The agrotechnical measures are carried out. Agricultural machinery is being prepared.

The president instructed Orazgeldiev to conduct seasonal agricultural work at the earliest opportunity.

More than one million tons of cotton is grown annually in Turkmenistan, which is the raw material base for the development of the textile industry. Up to 70 percent of the raw materials are processed in the country. The total area of cultivated land is more than 500,000 hectares in the country.

Turkmenistan was awarded a special prize by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for achievements in the field of food security.
