By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The European Union (EU) is simplifying procedures for the import of Georgian hazelnuts, Trend reports referring to the National Food Agency of Georgia.

This is due to the growing confidence in the quality of Georgian hazelnuts and the effective policy of state control.

The European Commission Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection has decided to reduce the frequency of monitoring the quality of Georgian hazelnuts exported to the EU.

This decision builds on measures taken by Georgia in 2020 to comply with EU requirements and prevent aflatoxin contamination.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture, in 2020 Georgia exported 18,000 tons of hazelnuts, which is 34 percent more than a year earlier. At the same time, 12,900 tons of hazelnuts were exported to the EU, which is 59 percent more than in 2019.
