Azerbaijan exported roughly 35 million tons of oil through pipelines and railways in 2008, the State Customs Committee said.
Around 31 million tons were exported via the BP-operated Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) in 2008.
The BTC transports light oil produced at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields. The only foreign participants in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli project are the U.S. companies ExxonMobil and Devon. ExxonMobil and Devon were not investors in BTC construction and sell their oil via the Georgian port of Batumi.
According to the committee, roughly 1.4 million tons were exported via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline. Mainly, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (Socar) exports light oil via the BTC. Raw materials are also exported by joint ventures and operating companies with foreign capital.
A total of 758, 500 tons were exported via the Baku-Supsa pipeline in 2008. BP is the operator.
Some 2.1 million tons were transported by railway in 2008.
