The volume of gas deliveries from Iran to Azerbaijan exceeded 1.76 billion cubic meters in 2017, Head of Gas Export Department at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR Gagamali Seyfullayev said in an interview with the “Iki Sahil” newspaper.
Azerbaijan imported 1.761 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran in 2017, he said.
Seyfullayev reminded that with a view to meet the gas demand of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, annually 402 million cubic meters of gas of Azerbaijani origin are supplied to Iran within a long-term (up to 2025) swap agreement, while 350 million cubic meters of this volume then supplied to Nakhchivan.
“These volumes are supplied under the swap agreement without payment. Under the agreement on gas import signed with Iran in October 2016, 270 million cubic meters of gas were delivered to Nakhchivan in 2017,” said Seyfullayev.
Azerbaijan and Iran are connected with the Astara-Bind-Biand gas pipeline.
