Special representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev said that the country plans to restore transport links with Afghanistan, Trend reports citing Kursiv.
He made this statement during the "Russia and Uzbekistan Facing Development and Security Challenges at a New Historical Stage of Interaction" conference, organized by the Valdai International Discussion Club and the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan.
"Of course, we will restore road and rail links with Afghanistan that are delivering food and medical supplies to the country. Afghan citizens really need this during COVID-19. It will be done for the sake of humanism," Irgashev said.
According to the State Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan's trade with Afghanistan from January through July reached $406.4 million, which is 1.6 percent more than in the same period in 2020. In 2020, the export of Uzbekistan accounted for 99.7 percent - $ 774.6 million. The remaining $2.3 million is imports. Uzbekistan sold food products for $301.2 million and ferrous metals for $54.4 million to the neighboring state.
Uzbekistan imported machinery and equipment worth $ 1.2 million from Afghanistan, cotton fiber worth $529,500 and food worth $106,000.
