Kazakhstan reveals coal export figures for 8M2021

Around 19.4 million tons of coal were exported from Kazakhstan in the first 8 months of 2021, said Zhanat Igisinov, Head of the Ferrous Metallurgy Department of the Industrial Development Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

He made the speech at a briefing at the Central Communications Service.

“The quality and volume of solid fuels shipped to other countries are different,” Igisinov said.

“During the reporting period, about 13 million tons were sent to Russia, 697,000 tons to Belarus, 574,000 tons to Ukraine, 661,000 tons to Kyrgyzstan, 568,000 tons to Uzbekistan, China – 84,000 tons of coal. About 3.8 million tons were delivered to European countries, including Poland, Latvia, Finland, and Scandinavia,” the expert said.

According to the head of the department, 10 percent of the coal mined in the country is sold goes to the exchange, the remaining 90 percent under the contract go to the energy and production sectors, household needs, for the population.

“The plan for demand this year will amount to 9.2 million tons, including for municipal needs - 2.8 million tons, for the population - 6.4 million tons of coal. This plan is based on the demand indicators proposed by each region,” Igisinov said.

“At present, 71.2 percent of the Kazakhstan population has been provided with coal, and for municipal needs - 92.5 percent of coal. Akmola, East Kazakhstan region, Karaganda region, Shymkent city are fully provided with volumes of coal for household needs. In the Akmola region, this figure makes up 662,000 tons. The indicators of other regions are 70-96 percent. We expect that by the middle of next month the overall security will reach 100 percent,” he added.
