BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 9. The President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov will participate in COP29 in Baku, Trend reports.
"President Sadyr Zhaparov will visit Azerbaijan on a working visit from November 11 to 13 to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)," said Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the President's Administration Muratbek Azymbakiev.
According to him, on November 12, Japarov will participate in the opening ceremony of the Climate Summit and deliver a speech at the plenary session of the conference.
The official noted that during the event "High-Level Dialogue: Promoting the Mountain Agenda and Updating the Issues of Mountains and Climate Change," organized by Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with Azerbaijan and Mongolia on the sidelines of COP29, speeches will be made by President Sadyr Japarov, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President of Nepal Ram Chandra Paudel, as well as leaders of other delegations and international organizations. This event will take place on November 13.
Azymbakiev also announced that, for the first time this year, during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) from November 13–21, a vibrant national pavilion of Kyrgyzstan will be organized under the theme "Kyrgyzstan: Sustainable Mountain Development."
The pavilion will host daily presentations by various ministries and agencies of the country on current climate-related issues, energy, trade and economic, tourism, and investment potential of Kyrgyzstan, as well as cultural events, exhibitions of national mountain products (honey, dried fruits, national beverages, etc.), and tastings.
On Monday, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be kicking off in Azerbaijan, the decision of which was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai in December last year.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) means “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
