Iran Materials 11 August 2009 12:34 (UTC +04:00)

Three people including the pilot have been killed and three others have been injured in a Bell 205 police helicopter that crashed in southern Iran, reported PressTV.

The helicopter was returning from an operation when it crashed in a mountainous region near the city of Kerman on Monday afternoon, IRNA reported.

Following the incident, rescue teams rushed to the scene to help the injured, who are reported to be in a stable condition.

A technical glitch is believed to have caused the crash according to the deputy governor general of Kerman province.

Iran has been the scene of a series of aerial disasters over the past couple of weeks.

In the worst of such mishaps, an Iranian passenger plane, run by Caspian Airlines, crashed on July 15, in northwest of Tehran, near the city of Qazvin, leaving all 168 people aboard dead.

On July 24, at least 16 people were killed and 21 others were injured when an Aria Air plane crash-landed in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

In August 2007, an Iranian military helicopter crashed in the northwestern city of Piranshahr, killing five and injuring six.

Two months after that, an army helicopter crashed in the western city of Kermanshah. Two were killed in the incident.
