Iran says enrichment suspension not subject of Geneva talks

Iran said Tuesday that suspension of uranium enrichment was not subject of the two-day talks with the six world powers in Geneva as Iran would never negotiate over its internationally acknowledged nuclear rights, dpa reported

"We will not allow any country to force us into talks over our nuclear rights and there will be no concessions in this regard, either," Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili said in a press conference after the talks.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who represented the six world powers Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States, and Jalili agreed to hold a new round of talks by the end of January in Istanbul.

"But we will not talk about the issue (enrichment suspension) in Istanbul, either," Jalili stressed.

He said that the main basis for the talks in Istanbul was "joint cooperation on numerous issues for reaching common grounds" and not, as mentioned by Ashton in her statement, solely on concerns over Iran's nuclear issue.

The Iranian chief nuclear negotiator clearly stressed that, as in Geneva, the agenda of the talks in Istanbul also should not be solely focused on nuclear but also take on general political issues
