Iran 's mission to the United Nations has lashed out at the Wall Street Journal for publishing an article against Iran, IRNA reported Monday.
The US newspaper published an article entitled "What If Gadhafi Had Gone Nuclear?" saying "the Libya experience highlights the risk of letting dangerous regimes-like Iran's-gain the world's most powerful weapons."
The article was written by Michael Oren, Israeli ambassador to the United States.
Official in charge of the press affairs of Iran's mission to the UN Ali-Reza Mir-Yousefi sent a response to the Wall Street Journal saying, "Israel is a nuclear threat not Iran."
"The writer of the article [...] made unfounded allegations against Iran," part of Iran's response read.
It was published in the comment column of the newspaper.
Iranian nuclear program has caused concern since 2003, when the IAEA became aware of its concealed activity. In late 2003, Iran signed the Additional Protocol to the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons and voluntarily announced about the suspension of uranium enrichment. However, it returned to this activity.
Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes of providing energy, but many other countries contend that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons and last June the Security Council imposed a fourth round of sanctions against it, citing the proliferation risks of its nuclear programme and its continued failure to cooperate with the IAEA.
