Iran and China cooperation accord is strategic and if it has to become operational it would certainly lead to economic development, said former Minister of Economic Affairs and Finances.

"China is one of the world's biggest economies therefore having strategic relations with it is a necessity," Shamseddin Hosseini, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"If our economic relations with other countries would increase the country's revenues would grow and would improve people's purchase power. By developing international relations we can increase export and production that would improve people's livelihood," he said.

Hosseini went on to note that in terms of the operation of the Iran and China cooperation document, the parliament should provide its primary approval and form a contract based on current regulations and conditions.

"For example to develop banking relations with China, there are regulations and instructions. Therefore some of the cases in the Iran and China document are applicable based on Iran's regulations but if there is an obligation in new contracts it requires parliament's approval based on the constitution," he said.

China and Iran signed a 25-year cooperation agreement to strengthen their long-standing economic and political cooperation.
