In the first quarter, the total production of agricultural products in Azerbaijan rose by 1.5 percent, including crop production increased by 10.1 percent, livestock - 1.2 percent.
This year, the sowing of spring crops in Azerbaijan decreased by 32,900 ha or 0.8 percent. Seeding legumes increased by 56.3 percent, sugar beet - 30.1 percent, perennial grasses - 13.9 percent. Potatoes sown area was 32.8 percent of the total sown area, vegetables - 18.8 percent, perennial herbs - 41.6 percent.
As of April 1, the spring planting was carried out in 102,800 ha.
In January-March, the spring sowing of grain and grain legumes (excluding maize) was carried out on the territory of 7,900 ha, potatoes - 31,300 ha, vegetables - 23,900 ha, melon plants for food - 4000 ha, perennial grasses - 28,300 ha, sugar beet - 3,900 ha of land.
As compared to the same period of 2009, the territory of the spring planting of sunflowers grew 38.6 percent, vegetables - 2.7 percent, production of field crop - 41.3 percent, sugar beet - 16.3 percent. 57.6 percent or 59,200 ha of the total volume of spring sowing accounted for potatoes, vegetables and melons, 27.6 percent or 28,400 ha - fodder plants.

In the field of agriculture in Azerbaijan, were produced 71,400 tons of meat, 332,700 tons of milk, 298 million chicken eggs. Milk production for the year grew by 4.1 percent or 13,000 tons, eggs - 2.6 percent or 7.6 million, meat production fell by 1.4 percent or 1,013 tons.

As of April 1, at the poultry factories of the country the number of chickens dropped by 14 percent or 1.1 million birds. In January-March the country's poultry plants produced 7,200 tons of chicken meat, which is 27.6 percent less than the same period of the last year and 137.5 million eggs - 2.7 percent lower than last year.
Imports of chicken meat into the country in January and February fell by 33.2 percent or 986 tons, eggs - 15.4 percent or 438,000 compared to the same period of the last year.

In March the index of production prices for agricultural products rose by 2.1 percent compared with the previous month, and in the first quarter fell by 2.1 percent annually.
Last month, prices for plant growing, melon and fruit grew by 2.1 percent, in the first quarter of 2009 - one percent.
In March, the index of production prices for livestock products increased by 2.1 percent compared to February. The price index of forest products remained unchanged (January-March of last year grew by 26.1 percent), prices of fish and fishery products remained unchanged.
