The volume of information and communication services rendered to business entities in Azerbaijan in January-April amounted to 335.4 million manat, or 24.9 percent more than the same period of last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee said.

About 70.3 percent of the revenue fall to mobile services, which growth, compared to the same period of last year, hits 27.1 percent, which in monetary terms amounted to 235.8 manat.

As formerly, mobile communications make up the major part of communication incomes.

About 71.2 percent of revenue (169.1mln manat) falls on mobile services. The growth hit 23.4 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Last year the number of mobile phone users in Azerbaijan increased by 1.5 million and as of April 1 has reached eight million.

As a result of the first quarter, Azerbaijani mobile communication operators' subscriber base increased by 56,000, amounting 7,813,128 subscribers, the Communications and IT Ministry said

The penetration rate of mobile communication in Azerbaijan made up 87 percent.

The overwhelming part of mobile users in Azerbaijan accounts for GSM standard. Currently three GSM operators function in Azerbaijan, including Azercell Telecom (3.7mln subscribers), Bakcell (1.5mln), Azerfon (1.5mln).  

In January-April computer, electronic and optical equipment, and electrical equipment was produced in Azerbaijan to the amount of 18.7 million manat.

During that period, computer, electronic and optical equipment was produced to the amount of 7.9 million manat, which is 76.7 million manat less than the same period last year.

Electrical equipment was manufactured to the amount of about 10.8 million manat, which is 9.9 percent more than in January-April last year.

Baku Telephone PU of the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry increased number capacity of automatic telephone exchange in Baku by more than 10,000 units.

At present, the weight of electronic telephone exchanges in the capital reached 91.5 percent. Telephone per 100 families in Baku comprises 34.4 pieces per capita. 

Operator plans to put into operation more than 6,200 ports for broadband Internet. At present, the number of users of broadband Internet access in the network of the production association exceeds 37,000, of which over 25,000 are users of the services of private Internet service providers.

Total number of ports in the operator's network reaches 60 units, of which about 30,000 units owned by commercial providers.

The Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan introduced a system of electronic circulation of documents Megapolis DocNet.

He said introducing a system allows to more quickly prepare and disseminate relevant documents on target recipients, as well as reduce the use of human resources and paper.
Today the ministry also introduces electronic digital signature. Technical work on the project was implemented by local IT company Ultra, which is the winner of the tender for the preparation of technical specifications for the creation and implementation of an electronic control system.

Ultra Company said the project is being implemented in phases, and today at the ministry was introduced a series of modules to automate circulation of documents. According to the preliminary data, the total completion of the implementation of the system is expected by mid July.

The project includes the introduction of modules "Personnel management" and "Consideration of applications of citizens". The module consideration of applications of citizens would respond more quickly to citizens' requests and make the process more transparent, and module Personnel management will enhance the professional level of personnel. In the future, electronic control system will be expanded to all structures, subordinated to the ministry.

A new wave of development of broadband communication market is observed in the market of internet services. Internet access market has been demonstrating sustainable growth over recent years.

The number of broadband Internet access connections in Azerbaijan reached 80,000. The ministry conducted monitoring to assess the country's Internet market. Based on the results, the ministry reported that pricing in this segment corresponds to the level of tariffs for Internet services in the region. The monitoring shows the tariffs of Internet providers to connect to ADSL technology.

Presently, the cost of this technology in Azerbaijan at speeds up to 1 Mbit / c varies from 25 to 94 manat. In other regional countries (Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan), the cost varies from 20 to 200 manat.

Over the last year, Internet prices fell five times in Azerbaijan. As of April, nearly 10,000 Internet resources were registered on the national .az domain. The registration cost is 20 manat.

More than 30 Internet service providers operate in Azerbaijan.

Internet penetration in the country has reached 41 percent, taking into account dial-up, Wi-Fi, ADSL, WiMAX, CDMA and mobile phones. The country is developing wireless broadband technology WiMAX and Wi-Fi, and the volume of traffic in Azerbaijan is 10 Gbps.
