Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (for 2010)

In 2010, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 9.4%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised 18.4bln. In particular, 70.7% accounted for retail trade, 29.3% - paid services.

All the major role in providing services to the population was played by the private sector, which owns a 95.6 percent increase in the consumer market of Azerbaijan. In particular, private enterprises sold to the population food products and services amounting to 17.0 billion manat. Of the total amount, 7.07 percent accounted for food products and 29.3 percent for services.

In 2010 the trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 13679.5 million manat, which is 9% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.7% of turnover, fairs and markets - 41.2%, individual entrepreneurs - 43.3%.

Of the goods sold, 8.8 billion manat accounted for food products, 4.9 billion manat - non-food products. Their volume of sales increased during the year by 7.5 percent and 13.8 percent respectively.

In 2010 the paid service rendered to population amounted to 4724.5 million manat, which is 10.8 percent more as compared with 2009. Individual entrepreneurs provided 73.1 percent of services, legal entities - 26.9 percent with growth of 12.2 percent and 7.1 percent respectively.

In 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 171.7 manat that is 14.4 percent higher than 2009. 

Prices

In December 2010, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services rose 1.4 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to 2009 grew by 5.7 percent in 2010 (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in December rose 2.0 percent compared to November, non-food products rose 0.9 percent, and tariffs for service rose 0.2%. 

Compared with 2009, food prices grew by 7.2 percent, non-food products - 2.3 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 4.3 percent.

In December 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government rose by 0.8% as compared to the previous month, and 3.5% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in December 2010 the index of industrial goods price rose 0.4%, but rose 28.2% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production increased 0.1 percent in December compared to previous month, but rose 34.8% in 2010 compared to the same period of 2009. 

The prices in refining chemical products increased 3.1% in the month, but increased 9.6% at annualized pace.    

In December, the prices in metallurgy increased 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, but rose 19.8% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
