Azerbaijan strengthens fight against money laundering

Azerbaijan expands cooperation in combating the financing of terrorism and money laundering with Turkey, Russia and Macedonia.
The relevant agreements have been approved by the presidential decrees.

Azerbaijan will cooperate with Turkey and Macedonia in the exchange of financial information in accordance with the agreements. The agreement with Russia envisages the cooperation in the fight against terrorism financing and money laundering.

The agreement between the Financial Monitoring Service under the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and the Turkish Financial Crimes Investigation Board was signed in Ankara in January 2015.

The agreements among the Financial Monitoring Service under the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and the Federal Financial Monitoring Service of Russia, as well as the Financial Intelligence Agency of Macedonia were signed in Strasbourg on April 6 and April 14, 2015, accordingly.

According to the decrees, the Financial Monitoring Service under the Central Bank of Azerbaijan must ensure the compliance with the provisions of the signed agreements. The Azerbaijani foreign ministry must notify the governments of Turkey, Russia and Macedonia about the implementation of the necessary procedures for the signed agreements to enter into force.
