Agriculture in Azerbaijan (January 2016)

The agricultural enterprises, private entrepreneurs, households have begun the spring field work since January. The necessary agricultural machinery is being provided.

The agricultural production volume in actual prices amounted to 224.2 million manat in Azerbaijan in January 2016 or by 1.8 percent more compared to the same period of 2015.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report, during this period the livestock production increased by 1.7 percent (220.1 million manat), crop production - by 4.7 percent (4.1 million manat).

So, it is planned to harvest the grain from a 927,400 hectare area in 2016. Wheat was sown at a 583,000 hectare area (62.9 percent of the total cultivated area) and barley at the remaining 344,400 hectares (37.1 percent).

Some 3,200 tons of vegetables were harvested from the covered land plots in Azerbaijan in January 2016, which is 6.7 percent more than in January 2015.

The growth was observed in the production of livestock products in January 2016 compared to the same period of 2015.

During the reporting period some 36,800 tons of meat in live weight, 147,300 tons of milk, 141.3 million pieces of eggs were produced. Meat production increased by 0.5 percent, milk - by 3 percent, the production of eggs by 4.5 percent in the country compared to January 2015.

As of January 1, 2016, cattle farms had 7,200 heads of cattle and 36,000 sheep and goats.

The timely livestock and veterinary measures were taken. This had a positive impact on the dynamic development of animal husbandry.
