Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-November 2016)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-November 2016, the Azerbaijani consumer market amounted to 34.2 billion manat, which is 1.3 percent more than its turnover for the same period of 2015.

The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 322.5 manat per capita in January-November 2016 or by 37.7 manat more compared to January-November 2015.

The retail trade turnover amounted to 26.3 billion manat in January-November 2016, which is 1.7 percent more than in January-November 2015.

Legal entities ensured 11 percent of the trade turnover.

Some 248.4 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly, which is 34.3 manat more than in January-November 2015.

The actual cost of the food and tobacco products and beverages increased by 2.6 percent, non-food items - by 0.7 percent in the reporting period.

The commodity market is mainly developing in the country due to the inflationary factors.

The consumers spent a half (49.7 percent) of funds to purchase food, tobacco products and beverages, 18 percent - clothing and footwear, 6.6 percent - electrical appliances and furniture, 5.7 percent - motor fuel, 1.5 percent - pharmaceuticals and medical products, 0.8 percent - computers, telecommunication devices and printers, 17.7 percent – other non-food items.

Paid services worth 6.8 billion manat were rendered to the population in January-November 2016 or 0.1 percent less compared to January-November 2015. Legal entities ensured 73.1 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 4,972.1 million manat.

Every citizen of the country acquired paid goods worth 706.3 manat per month in January-November 2016, which is 29 manat more than in January-November 2015. Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.

Prices

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 12.1 percent in January-November 2016 compared to the same period of 2015.

The food prices increased by 14.1 percent, non-food items – 16.8 percent and paid services – 5.6 percent in January-November 2016.

Such a high rate of inflation in the country was the result of the impact of national currency devaluation.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 1.7 percent in Azerbaijan in November 2016 compared to October 2016.

The food prices increased by 2.6 percent, non-food items - by 1.9 percent, paid services – 0.3 percent in Azerbaijan in November 2016 compared to October 2016.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 12.1 percent in Azerbaijan in January-November 2016 compared to the same period of 2015.

The food prices increased by 14.1 percent, non-food items - by 16.8 percent, paid services – 5.6 percent in Azerbaijan.

The prices on rice, flour, macaroni, cookies and baklava, buckwheat, beef, mutton and chicken, dairy products, fish products, sausages, eggs, cheese, butter and vegetable oil, sugar and granulated sugar, coffee, tea and cocoa, pear, alcoholic drinks, pomegranates, tomatoes, cucumbers increased in Azerbaijan during a month.

The prices on bananas, apples, lemons, tangerines, persimmons, chestnuts, cabbages, greens, carrots and onions decreased.

The prices on other food products were not greatly changed.

The prices on fabric, clothes and shoes, building materials, medications, furniture, household items, rugs and other floor coverings, household textiles, jewelry, glass products, dishes and cutlery, household appliances, computers, stationery goods, books, as well as spare car parts increased in November.

The prices on other non-food items were not greatly changed.

The cost of rental housing, repair of household appliances and cars, international passenger transportation by sea, air and rail increased in November.

The prices on other paid services remained unchanged.

The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 13.1 percent in January-November 2016 compared to January-November 2015.

The industrial producer price index decreased by 4.6 percent in Azerbaijan in November 2016 compared to November 2015. A 22.6 percent growth was observed in January-November 2016 compared to January-November 2015.

During this period, producer prices in the mining industry decreased by 5.7 percent, while increased by 0.5 percent in the manufacturing industry for the month.
