Ukraine plans to develop military-technical cooperation with Turkmenistan, Ukraine media outlets reported with the reference to the statement of State Concern Ukroboronprom.

The negotiations of the head of Ukroboronprom Sergey Gromov and Turkmen Minister of Defence Begench Gundogdiyev were held in Ashgabat recently. Current contracts for the product supply of Ukrainian military-industrial complex (MIC) and prospects of developing cooperation in this sphere were in the agenda of negotiations.

According to the information, Kiev offered a wide range of cooperation in the armored sphere and aviation, and in the sphere of Air Defence (AD).

"We are ready to supply the product of Ukrainian MIC for the development of the combat readiness of Turkmenistan Armed Forces, as well as to provide training services for Turkmen colleagues, to search for another ways of developing bilateral cooperation," the statement reported according to the head of state concern.

In June 2013 the Ukrainian government confirmed the interstate agreement between Turkmenistan and Ukraine on the implementation of a programme of military and technical cooperation of the two countries for 2013-2014. Madjlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan ratified this agreement in May.

This agreement, signed at late January, 2013, will allow to expand cooperation on the repair and modernization of weapons and military equipment for Turkmenistan, development of repair facilities for aviation and naval forces, the supply of goods for military use, The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine website reported earlier.

Another package of intergovernmental agreements was signed within the framework of the state visit to Turkmenistan of Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych in February 2013.

The list of the signed documents includes a memorandum of understanding between the National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine and Turkmengaz State Concern and a programme of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries for 2013, as well as a memorandum of understanding between the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan on cooperation in the sphere of counteraction against legalisation (money laundering) of criminally obtained income, terrorist financing and other matters.
