Multiple suspects have been arrested in the death earlier this week of US ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other US diplomats in Benghazi, Libyan officials announced Thursday, DPA reported.
Deputy Interior Minister Wanis Al-Sharif would not release details about the people detained.
"The results of our investigation must remain secret for now," he said.
The Libyan investigators are following up on evidence indicating that the attack was not spontaneous, rather specifically planned to take place on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
