(Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia) - On 17 February the Assembly of Kosovo passed a declaration, in which Kosovo was proclaimed an independent and sovereign state.
Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins on Sunday, 17 February travelled to Brussels, where EU Foreign Ministers will discuss the declared independence of Kosovo and the developing situation in the Western Balkans at the General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting on 18 February.
Latvia stands for harmonised EU action on the issue of Kosovo. Latvia considers that a solution for the issue of the status of Kosovo is crucial for the political and economic stability of the Western Balkan states, as well as for their future development.
