( FOX News )- The right-to-die pleas of a former schoolteacher suffering from a disfiguring tumor were rejected by a French court this week, according to a report from French news agency AFP.

Chantal Sebire, 52, of the Bourgogne region in Eastern France, has appealed to French government officials, including President Nicolas Sarkozy, to allow her doctor to help end her life, it is reported. But the high court in Dijon rejected Sebire's request Monday.

Sebire, a mother of three, was diagnosed in 2002 with esthesioneuroblastoma, a rare malignant nasal cavity tumor, which has caused her to lose her sense of smell, taste and sight. Her face has also been severely deformed from the tumor.

"One would not allow an animal to go through what I have endured," she said before urging the court to intervene and grant her request, AFP reported.
