Canada to send more troops to Afghanistan
Canada is to send more troops to Afghanistan in order to support fight against corruption, drug trafficking, good governance and reconstruct process, visiting Canadian Foreign Minister David Emerson said Saturday, dpa reported.
Speaking in a joint press conference with Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta in Kabul, the Canadian minister however did not set a timetable for the sending of troops to Afghanistan but said, " Canada was asking other partners to increase their troops commitment. Canada has had 2,500 troops here in Afghanistan and that number could expand to 2,700."
The Canadian foreign minister also added that "we are all looking at different collaborative approaches to solving the situation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and look forward to that taking place in the months ahead."
This is Emerson's first visit to Afghanistan since his appointment as foreign minister in May this year.
