Afghan security apparatus have unearthed a new militant outfit fighting government in the post- Taliban nation, a private television channel reported Wednesday.
"The new militant group is Hizbul Tahrir. This group has activities in some provinces including Badakhshan, Kapisa and Kabul to sabotage the coming elections set for August 20," Tolo TV quoted National Security Directorate Chief Amrullah Salih as saying, reported Xinhua.
The outfit, according to intelligence chief, is different from Taliban militants and insurgents loyal to dissident warlord Gulbudin Hekmatyar.
Hizbul Tahrir or (Writing Party) has not been registered with the Ministry for Justice before, the official asserted.
Taliban outfit and militants loyal to Hekmatyar-led radical Islamic Party Hizb-e-Islami have been fighting Afghan and international troops over the past seven years.
