Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS) or intelligence service has captured 14 terrorists over the past week and thus foiled a series of subversive attacks, spokesman for the intelligence agency Lutfullah Mashal said Wednesday.
"These terrorists have been arrested during series of operations in different provinces," Mashal told newsmen at a press conference here, Xinhua reported.
He said that among those arrested is a four-member group that was assigned to target a parliament member Abdul Rasoul Sayaf in Kabul while another two-member group had planed to assassinate the Consul General of India in eastern Jalalabad city.
There are a Pakistani and a Nepali citizen among the 14 arrested men, Mashal further said.
Afghanistan has been facing increasing Taliban-linked militancy recently. The Taliban insurgents who often target government interests, in a surprise move attacked several government departments in southern Kandahar city on Saturday, leaving over 60 people dead and injured.
