Turkey and Iraq intend to expand the bilateral relations in the sphere of economy, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said.

Yildiz made the remarks during his recent visit to Iraq.

The minister said that during the meetings with Iraqi officials, he discussed several issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Turkey and Iraq, Turkish Sabah newspaper reported on Jan.19.

The minister added that the two countries plan to jointly construct an oil pipeline, however, he didn't reveal any further details.

"Turkey and Iraq intend to increase the volume of bilateral trade turnover," said Yildiz.

Previously, during his visit to Turkey in December 2014, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said his country is interested in exporting its oil to world markets through Turkey's territory.

He said the stable situation in Turkey will allow to export Iraqi oil through this country's territory.

The prime minister added that Iraq is interested in cooperation with Turkey in all spheres.
