Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz and Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri signed a protocol to extend the agreement on mutual trade in electricity, the Energy Ministry of Turkey said.

The new protocol was signed in connection with the expiration of the old agreement, which has been in force since 2005.

Stressing the need for further cooperation on such projects as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE), Taner Yildiz said that this agreement provides an opportunity to meet Georgia's electricity demand in the winter season with the help of Turkey and Turkey's needs in the other seasons with the help of Georgia.

Khetaguri cited BTC and BTE as an example of successful cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector and expressed confidence in further expansion of this cooperation.
