The European Union (EU) will continue to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan in various spheres, head of the EU delegation in Tashkent, Ambassador Yuri Stark said.

He noted that the EU will increase its support to modernization of Uzbekistan's agricultural sector.

The EU intends to intensify and expand the dialogue on politics, economy, security, human rights, the rule of law, management and internal affairs, according to the ambassador.

Uzbekistan and the EU signed an agreement on partnership and cooperation in 1996.

The EU opened its diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan in May 2011. In July 2015, the organization approved the allocation of 168 million euros worth financial aid to Uzbekistan for 2014-2020.

The funds are allocated for improving the irrigation infrastructure, using renewable energy sources in agribusiness and promoting the program for creating new jobs in Uzbekistan's regions.
