Georgian parliament approves new ambassador to Azerbaijan

At its plenary session, the Georgian Parliament approved Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Azerbaijan Teimuraz Sharashenidze on Friday. 87 MPs voted for him, against – no-one.

At its plenary session, the Georgian Parliament approved Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Azerbaijan Teimuraz Sharashenidze on Friday. 87 MPs voted for him, against - no-one.
Sharashenidze told Trend after his appointment that his main target will be to support dynamism in the Georgian-Azerbaijani relations. "Georgian-Azerbaijani relations are characterized by dynamism, which is an achievement of the leaders of the two countries, and my goal is to support this dynamic relationship, the more that our countries have many common interests," he said.

Sharashenidze believes that special attention should be paid to cooperation in transport and energy spheres. Teimuraz Sharashenidze previously served as consul general to Istanbul, he is a career diplomat.

Previous Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikoloz Nadbiladze left office in November 2009.

Over the past year, parliament approved two nominees for the post -- Vano Noniashvili and Irakli Kavtaradze - but neither took office.

The Georgian Parliament today approved ambassadors to Switzerland - Zurab Chiaberashvili (with 84 votes for), the Republic of Poland - Nikolay Nikolozishvili (84), the Slovak Republic - Alexander Nalbandov (88), the Kingdom of Sweden - Constantin Kavtaradze (86), the Republic of Portugal - George Gorgiladze (88), the Arab Republic of Egypt - Archil Dzuliashvili (84). Mamuk Zhgenti was approved as a permanent ambassador to the Council of Europe (with 87 votes for).

At the last plenary session on Tuesday, the Parliament approved the nomination of ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Georgia to Armenia, Federative Republic of Brazil and the United States of Mexico.
