Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 16 / Trend T.Hajiyev /

The Diplomat magazine interviewed Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev for its December issue. The magazine is published in the Hungarian and English languages in Budapest, the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission reported.

The interview entitled "The Azerbaijan- Hungary relations have always been good" focused on the Azerbaijan- Hungarian dialogue expanding in the political, economic and cultural areas.

In the interview, Guliyev also spoke about the ongoing occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia and its bitter consequences, occupant Armenia's non-constructive position in the conflict resolution process, Azerbaijan's rapid economic development of recent years, and the business environment established in the country.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.

Guliyev also responded to questions related to his way of life, the activities undertaken by the Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary, and future plans and projects.
