Members of the Adventists of the Seventh Day, whose propaganda has been prohibited by Azerbaijani law, were detained in Sumgayit today.

The Sumgayit City Police Department conducted the operations. They discovered that Moldovan citizen Rustam Akhmedov, who is temporarily registered in Baku, promoted the sect in the home of Oleg Litovchenko, who resides in the Cottage settlement. He promoted the sect to Lyubov Dorma, Leila Heydarova, Maghsoud Yakhyaeva, Sevinc Mansurlu, Fariz Guliyev and Parwana Ismailova, the Interior Ministry reported.

Roughly 587 religious books, and 255 DVDs and cassettes promoting the sect were found and confiscated from the apartment.

A protocol has been drawn up against Akhmedov according to Article 300 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. Another protocol has been drawn up against Litovchenko according to Article 299. The protocols have been sent to the Sumgayit city court.
