The commemoration ceremony of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev was held on Dec. 12. It was supported by the Azerbaijani Embassy to Egypt.

The embassy employees, Azerbaijani officers studying at the Academy of Security "Mubarak", professors of reputable universities in Egypt, Azerbaijani students studying in Egypt, Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva, scholars and cultural figures of Egypt, the public representatives attended the ceremony.

The participants familiarized with a stand, demonstrating the life and activity of Heydar Aliyev and laid flowers on his bust.

After welcoming the audience, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev spoke about the life and work of national leader. He also spoke about the achievements of the country after his coming to power, his invaluable contribution to nation-building in Azerbaijan.

MP Ganira Pashayeva also spoke at the event. She said that it is difficult to enumerate all the projects of national leader Heydar Aliyev, realized during the Soviet period and the period of Azerbaijan's independence.

"This great personality was able to defend his nation from many ills and threats, provided a social and political stability in the country, ceased the civil confrontation and prevented the disintegration of the country," she added.

Pashayeva said that Heydar Aliyev's name today is a symbol of Azerbaijane. "He has created today's powerful Azerbaijan, developed its independence, spoke about it worldwide. He has developed and realized the political and socio-economic development strategy of Azerbaijan. We are pleased that his worthy successor - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev continues his wise policy today, " she added.

Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev died on Dec. 12, 2003.
