The British Embassy in Tehran suspended its activity yesterday, Iranian /econews.ir/ website reported.
According to reports, a clash occurred between embassy employees and Iranian citizens who were appealing to obtain visas, after which the embassy suspended its activity.
As the official website of the British diplomatic representation in Tehran reported, the embassy's activity was suspended due to "safeguard" and "security matters".
"We hope that the embassy will resume its activity today," said the embassy's statement.
In recent months the British officials subjected the situation on human rights in Iran to criticism, and this unofficially weakened the diplomatic relations between Iran and the UK. The British Embassy in Tehran and the Iranian Embassy in London are headed by chargé d'affaires; the two countries unofficially recalled their ambassadors.
